The origin of Pool developed out of a lawn game similar to croquet back in the 15th century. The game evolved and expanded over time to include pocketed tables and shot-calling for points, enjoying wide popularity in America in the 1920s. The term billiards comes from the French words billart ( wooden stick ) and bille ( ball ). From 1878 until 1956, pool and billiard championship tournaments were held annually.
Due to its popularity, throughout the Civil War, billiard results received wider coverage than war news. Krone celebrates the sport of billiards with its unique Limited Edition writing instrument. The cap and barrel of the pen mirror that of an actual wood pool stick. At the top of the cap is a domed mother of pearl emulating the cue ball.
Willie Mosconi one of the world’s most renowned pool players set a record by running 526 consecutive balls without a miss during a straight pool exhibition on March 19 & 20, 1954.
