Classic Pens LS2 Sazanami Limited Edition Raden Fountain Pen
The LS2 Sazanami (Random) was also launched in 2001. It is handcrafted out of blue pearl and segments of pure gold which are artistically placed on the cap and barrel. The variety of size and shape of the segments enhances the composition. The section and part of the barrel are adorned with color lacquer and gold dust which compliment the blue pearl.
The Sazanami is handcrafted by the Master Tatsuya Tōdō. The Maki-E techniques employed are: Raden in which shades of blue green iridescent pearls are inlaid on the cap and barrel; Togidashi wherein gold dust is sprinkled between layers of urushi lacquer on the section. The artist selects a variety of rectangular shaped, pure gold segments which he inlays onto the cap and barrel thus enhancing the design.
The creation of the Sazanami is extremely laborious and painstaking. Each and every strip of pearl and pure gold is cut, shaped, applied on the pen and polished by hand. The design also requires the highest degree of craftsmanship. The artist Tatsuya Tōdō is a master of this Maki-E technique, making the Sazanami an exquisite composition.
A certificate of authenticity signed by the artist, Masa Sunami and Andreas Lambrou accompanies each pen and are housed in hand made gift boxes along with a 32 page brochure which has full details and color photos of all 12 designs in the LS collection.
